The Scottish National Party

'An open Modern Economy'

This SNP Party holds a large focus on tackling austerity and securing investment for Scottish Public Services. They've pledged to fight for a 'society where opportunities are created for all', with the increased prosperity being shared equally amongst all. At the centre of their ethos is the promise that Scotland will not 'stand down' under this SNP Party.

Economic growth must be sustainable

We oppose any increases in VAT  helping families make ends meet.

SNP MPs will support reform of VAT, including the continuation of VAT-exemption on essential items

We will not support any UK government that does not end austerity

SNP MPs at Westminster will:

Demand the devolution of the tax powers Scotland needs to make the system fairer while protecting public services

Reject the ‘race to the bottom’ tax policy of the Tories, opposing tax cuts for big business and the wealthiest, instead supporting a crackdown on tax avoidance and evasion

Back a reduction in employers National Insurance contributions – helping firms with the cost of creating new jobs

Open the way to a Scotland with increased prosperity, reduced inequality and greater opportunity

On the energy crisis SNP MPs at Westminster will:

Put a duty on energy suppliers to use clear language in explaining tariffs and costs

Contact all customers who have been on the same tariff for two years unless it is the cheapest tariff

Ensure that, in the event an energy supplier fails, the full credit built up by a consumer is paid back and if there are arrears to be paid,

We will introduce a cap on credit that can be built up

Invest in public services and the economy and follow Scotland’s lead in putting wellbeing at the heart of policymaking
